Cleaning Your Outdoor Grill

Your outdoor grill is the center of your outdoor kitchen during the summer months. If your grill has a side burner or two you can use your outdoor grill as a substitute for your indoor oven and stove and move all the heat and odor of indoor food preparation outside. You can bake and roast in your outdoor grill as easily as in the kitchen oven.

Cleaning your grill after each use is important because it will greatly extend the life of the grill and, perhaps even more importantly, it will ensure that you get consistent performance out of it. If the perfect 1 inch porterhouse is five minutes on each side in April you will need it to be the same five minutes in August to keep your barbecue champ title.

The outside cleans easily with normal household cleaners. Dish-washing detergent is an excellent grease cutter and when mixed with warm water will probably be adequate to keep the exterior of even your stainless steel grill looking like new. Do not hesitate to hose it off for a good rinsing. Water will not hurt the grill unless it is allowed to accumulate so if you cannot leave it in the sun to dry thoroughly give it a wipe down with an absorbent towel.

After each use, and after the grill has cooled, remove the cast iron grates and give them a brushing with a grill cleaning brush. You want to remove the grates before brushing because you do not want debris falling onto the burners or accumulating in the bottom of the grill pan. Wash them down with your dish washing detergent solution, give them a good rinse, dry, and as a finishing touch spray them lightly on both sides with cooking oil. If you do this diligently after each use the grates will never rust. Food will not stick to them either.

While the grill grates are removed spray the burners lightly with a grease cutting cleaner and gently brush them and wipe them off until the original color shines through. Give them a very light spray of vegetable oil too but wipe off any excess. Drippings and debris can rust through the thin metal burners in just one season without continuous maintenance. This is the best way to avoid the replacement cost of new burners and to keep them performing consistently. Some grills will require you to remove a lava rock grate or drip shield before you can get to the burners. In these situations there should be substantially less drippings and debris on the burners after a few uses so you will just have to monitor the build up.

Made from bricks, it can be fixed in your backyard to make a trendy campfire or even a grill for your weekend barbecue party. Copper bowls can make pits with a charming retro twist. Make sure to include spark screens to cover the flames without cutting off the air supply. Mounted on a metal stand these can impart a vintage element to your home décor as well!

Check Out Char-Broil 4651330 Tabletop Grill for $25.99

Char-Broil 4651330 Tabletop Grill Review

bought this grill and used it a handful of times at home and on a camping trip.

This grill has a vaporizer metal plate that covers the burners, it's a pain to clean after cooking, but it does the job of giving food that "grilled" flavor. The grill does not heat up enough with the vaporizer metal plate on it to grill steaks, take it off and it can cook some 1" rib-eyes easily (make sure to preheat.) With the vaporizer metal plate, it does the job. I've cooked chicken hamburgers, sausages, bacon and toasted buns quickly. Works well, in windy conditions it's best to leave on high heat from my experience. Line the bottom of the grill with aluminum foil to prevent blowouts from wind and keep cleanup a snap.

propane canisters from home depot last a good amount of time (for me it was prob 1-1 1/2 hours of cooking time.) If you're going to grill for a long time I suggest making sure you always have an extra can of propane on you, and also always have a fire extinguisher on hand, you never know!

Easy, very portable (you can stuff your propane, long lighter, cooking utensils in and fold up legs) and not too bad to clean.

Plastic handles could be improved along with the burner/valve, it doesn't feel that sturdy.

Char-Broil 4651330 Tabletop Grill Feature

  • 12,000 BTUs, 187 square inch cooking area
  • Replacement propane, 16.4 ounces
  • Filtered regulator
  • Folding legs for easy handling

great product - J. Belanger -
bought one of these 1990 and used it for 12 years. did not have to replace anything in all that time. we moved and somehow we lost it in the move. purchased a new one last week and was shocked that my .00 item was now .00. progress I guess.

Produces great flavor! - depasz -
I bought this grill to tide me over until the big fancy expensive grill I wanted came in stock again (had to wait all fall and winter). I do a lot of grilling because it makes the food taste so much better. I finally bought the big fancy grill and I have to say, the food tastes better coming from this little thing. I think it's because of the small space in which the food and smoke intermingle, more concentrated smoke. I don't know if that's healthy, but it sure does make a killer burger or steak! I always prefer and use this grill over the big one when it's just our family for dinner. I now need to buy another one because the burner shield is about to fall apart. The handles broke off a long time ago. My husband made a new better handle for it that is very sturdy. I would have rated it a five star if the handles had not broken as easily as they did. Love the food off this grill!

Tailgate Grill - FAIL!!! - ucboilermaker -
I will open with the expected "DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT". I ordered this grill for the first weekend of college football. The weather outside was nice, low 60's, light wind, sunny. I set the grill up with a new full 16 oz. Coleman propane tank. After setting (and keeping) the grill to high, it took multiple attempts to keep the grill lit, despite the low wind. After 20 minutes the grill was still not hot, but I put on my 1/4 lb hamburger patties. After mulitple attempts to keep the grill protected from any breeze, including putting the grill in the trunk of the car (do not try this at home), I pulled my burgers off after AN HOUR AND A HALF (1.5 hours). Despite this amount of time on the "grill" the meat was still raw and I went through an entire canister of propane. There was nothing else I could do to help this grill cook, short of breathing on it. Spend the extra money for a better grill!

Best Camping Grill to Use

There are several camping grills that are considered to be the best. Here's three of the best: Blackstone Cook, The Weber Baby Q 100 Grill and European Outdoor Chef City Grill, and the Camp Chef Weekender 2-Burner Stove.

Camping is a wonderful time to bond with your family and/or friends, have that adventure together that you will cherish for a long time. It's an activity done by so many people all over that it's no surprise that there are a lot of camping gears being sold, especially camping grills. But what camping grill should you get, the best one to cook on so you can enjoy your camping adventure more?

Blackstone Cook

Best Camping Gear Reviews, founded in 2008 to address the lack of online content that catered to campers specifically, awards the Blackstone Cook 4 out of 5 starts and considers it the best camping grill around. One of the best things about this camping grill is that it has a large surface to cook on, with 4 burners that put out 15,000 BTU and are independently controlled. Their standard griddle top is great for cooking breakfasts and has proven to be very easy to clean. Its large size can let you simultaneously cook about 2 dozen eggs on the griddle top. And since it is a propane grill, it is easy to light. Thought very large when it is set up, it can easily fold and can fit in with the rest of your camping gear.

Weber Baby Q 100 Grill and European Outdoor Chef City

Two camping grills are considered to be the best under the criterion of portability. The Weber Baby Q 100 Grill is made of quality materials. For a small grill, it has a large cooking surface. It is also easy to use as it can be assembled within minutes and after screwing in a propane cylinder, you're good to go.

The European Outdoor Chef City Grill, for a portable and lightweight gas grill, has the same power and function of a full-sized grill. Internal engineering allows the user to either focus or distribute the heat. It is also versatile enough that it can roast, fry, or grill.

Camp Chef Weekender 2-Burner Stove

For those on a budget, Camp Chef Weekender 2-Burner Stove is considered the best camping grill that retails for under $200. It has 2 cast burners that give out 30,000 BTU and a tabletop design that comes with leg extensions, making it ideal when you're on the go. It also has control knobs that similar to the common appliances, which adds to the ease of use and a large cooking surface measuring at 345 square inches. All these perks, and yet it retails for about $110.

With the assurance that even while outdoors, you'll still be able to enjoy your meals with the best camping grills there is, you can go right ahead and have those great memories of the adventures you have during your camping trip.

Mini Fridge and Fridge Freezer

Having a mini fridge or fridge freezer at home gives you a lot of benefits. Having one gives you more space to store perishable food that can't fit anymore in your home refrigerator, you can also use it to simply stock up on food and drinks right in your favorite room or spot, enabling you to access your favorite beer or chocolate bar without going to the kitchen and missing the winning shot of a basketball game.

Some people also want to keep other peoples hands off their personal food items and having a mini fridge or fridge freezer is the best way to go about protecting your food stuff and avoiding quarrels or arguments or even setting up a surveillance camera just so you can figure out who's been running off with your chilled vodka bottle. You can also use your this fridge as a temporary storage whenever your defrosting the main fridge, of course you'd have to choose what is the more easily perishable of the foodstuff that you have or if you have time you can choose to rotate or time the stay of meats, fish and leftover in your mini fridge / fridge freezer while the defrosting and cleaning is going on. It gives you a sense of empowerment, being able to freely choose food items that you know you can keep fresh and secure in your own personal fridge.

A mini fridge or fridge freezer gives you a sense of freedom, since it enables you to transport more choices of food items, whether this is fresh meat, fish, frozen food stuff like ice cream and cakes and of course cold drinks like sodas, milk, juices and of course beer. Tips For Buying a Propane Patio Heater

There are a number of things to take into consideration when you are purchasing a propane patio heater such as a built-in spark ignition, adjustable heat control, wheel kit and BTU output. If all this sounds like a foreign language to you do not fear, this article should help you learn some valuable information about propane patio heaters.

Types of Propane Patio Heaters

First, there are a few different types of propane patio heaters on the market today for residential use. There is the stem and cap style that you see on many restaurant patios, there are heaters with a newer design that radiate heat from the side of the heater so it is closer to the objects you are trying to heat and there are even table top, portable patio heaters. Each patio heater can be used in different circumstances depending on the layout of your patio area. For example, if you have a large oval patio table you may want to look into purchasing two cap-style heaters, one for each end of the table, that will radiate heat down towards diners. If you have a smaller patio or balcony you may want to look into a heater that radiates heat from the side so the heating source is closer to your guests.

Patio Heater Features

A nice feature to have on a patio heater is a built-in spark ignition. This makes starting you patio heaters as easy as pressing a button. Just turn on the gas, press the ignition and you are able to warm your guests. Another nice feature is an adjustable heat control. This allows you to adjust how much heat you need from a heater. Heat controls allow you to utilize your propane fuel more effectively than if you do not have a control valve.

If you plan on moving your heater around a lot you will want to make sure that you get a model with a built-in wheel kit so it can be moved very easily to any area you need heat.

How to Determine the Strength of a Heater

BTU is short for British Thermal Unit that is the amount of heat required to increase the temperature of one pound of water by one degree Fahrenheit. Therefore, the higher the BTU output ability of a heater the more powerful the heater. Fore example, a heater that can produce 45,000 BTU's is more powerful than a heater that can produce 30,000 BTU's. You will also want to take into consideration the heating diameter of the unit. Some heaters may be able to produce a bit more BTU's but because of their design they may be able to heat a larger area sometimes referred to as the heating diameter. Think of this as a circular heating area around the heater and the diameter measurement goes directly through the center of the circle.

Propane patio heaters are really a must have for anyone that uses their backyard. Patio heaters allow you to utilize your outdoor space even in cooler weather. Patioshoppers.com provides great customer support and you can find propane patio heaters for every budget.

Coleman 9949-750 Road Trip Grill LXE, Red

I've owned this grill for almost three years now. I preheat and cook with the TOP DOWN all the time. We're talking about 20+ hours so far of TOP DOWN cooking and nothing has ever melted/burnt. I use it camping sometimes cooking for 20+ people. How anyone could be complaining about not being able to cook with the top down is very strange, and I must say that I'm tending to agree with another commenter that it might just be a malicious comment trying to discredit this grill. Oy... the world we live in.

With attachements you can do pancakes on one side and burgers on the other at the same time. Or you can boil water on one side and grill on the other... it's pretty versatile.

I know people who use this as their primary home grill who have never had a problem. As for flaws, I guess the only flaw is that it's kind of a pain to clean up after grilling, as you can soak the grill-plate attachments, but you must clean all the interior surfaces by hand. Not fun, but a small price to pay for the conveinence this grill offers.

My opinion? Worth every minute of clean up to have a grill like this that I"m able to use 100% of the grill surface. Sure there are some "hot spots" and "cool spots" as with any grill, and you need to learn where they are how to cook with it. That lesson is learned after the first time you use it!

Overall this grill does an excellent job, and if/when I kill it, I'll be looking for another just like it.

Outdoor Electric Grills - Four Basic Types

The thought of the aroma of burgers and chicken wafting through your backyard conjures up those great summers days and evenings spent enjoying food, family and friends. Outdoor electric grills will give you more time to spend with loved ones and friends since they cook food quickly, they are easy to operate and they are easy to clean up afterward.

Some outdoor grills come already assembled, some you will have to assemble yourself. There will be no running out of gas or charcoal with an electric grill and maintenance takes very little time. Your food will heat evenly because of the heating elements and your food will cook faster. All you will have to do is plug your grill in, wait a few minutes for it to heat up and you will be ready to start cooking the food.

Outdoor electric grills are a safe alternative to other types of grills and, for the environmentally friendly folks out there, they do not pollute the air with harmful gases. Most electric grills have an adjustable heat range from low (to keep the food warm after it has been cooked) to high (for searing steaks). Most of the surfaces are non-stick so you do not need much oil for cooking and it makes cleaning up much easier.

Outdoor electric grills come in four basic types: tabletop grills, grills on carts, post mount grills and built-in grills. Cost of a tabletop grill starts at approximately thirty dollars and can go up to several hundred dollars, especially if they are made of stainless steel and have a larger cooking surface. They should last for quite a number of years and they are good for college students, young couples, an elderly person and small gatherings. Grills on carts start at about one hundred dollars. The carts typically have foldaway side trays either in wood or metal and most of these trays are weather resistant. Some feature a removable thermostat control and three element positions and there is usually a wire lower shelf for extra storage.

Post mount outdoor grills are very sturdy and durable. Most feature very large heating elements for even faster cooking and many feature a triple wall insulated body. Many offer stainless steel construction and, of course, like with all outdoor electric grills there is no open flame and no gas tank to fill. These grills are priced at several hundred dollars and go up to several thousand dollars. Built-in grills provide clean electric cooking, are typically all stainless steel construction and provide easy to use adjustable controls. They are priced from several hundred to several thousand dollars. Some built-in electric grills are made to fit in yachts and other large vessels.

If you are looking for easy cooking, easy clean up and some great tasting food that you can share with family and friends then an electric grill will fit all your needs and you are certain to find one in your price range since there is such a large array of outdoor electric grills from which to choose.
